AI glossary · a term from The AI Stairway™
Tramlines
Tramlines are The AI Stairway™ course’s way of sorting what goes into AI into three lanes: green (go, with nothing private in it), amber (with care, or with approval) and red (don’t). You decide the lane before you press Enter, and your organisation’s own rules always come first.
Think of it as
A tram stays on its rails and knows where the buffers are.
Why it matters at work
Deciding the lane first keeps people and information safe without slowing everyday work. A named person’s health information, for example, is amber only in a tool approved for exactly that, and red anywhere else.
This is a term The AI Stairway™ course uses for its own method; you won’t find it in every AI glossary.
